Places to Visit

Lochcarron Weavers - 2 miles along the road to North Strome/Ardaneaskan. Tartan is still woven on the old looms and sold in the shop, also sells a wide range of knitwear and tweeds.

Strome Castle - A ruined castle which is situated on a rocky promontory jutting into Loch Carron, commanding fine views westwards to Skye.  3 miles west of Lochcarron at North Strome.

Smithy Heritage Centre - Located in a restored smithy and forge just past the golf course, about two miles out of Lochcarron on the road to Inverness. Exhibitions of local history, old photographs and historical booklets about Lochcarron.  Open from April to October, admission is free but there is a box for voluntary donations.

Attadale Gardens -  About 6 miles from Lochcarron on the other side of the Loch on the A890 to Kyle of Lochalsh. Located in the grounds around Attadale House are various types of garden. Traditional kitchen garden, water garden and Japanese garden plus a geodesic dome housing the fern collection. The gardens are open 10 am to 5:30 pm from April to October, closed Sundays. For more details and photos visit the Attadale website.

Applecross - 18 miles west of Lochcarron, via the steep and winding Bealach nam Bà (Pass of the Cattle), which is one of the highest roads in Britain at 2,055 ft. There is a view point at the top with spectacular views of the islands of Raasay and Skye. Make it a day trip and return to Lochcarron via the costal road round to Shieldaig and then back via the A896.

Eilean Donan Castle -  Probably the most photographed castle in Scotland, 18 miles south of Lochcarron at Dornie on the A87 about 30 minutes by car.

Isle of Skye - Easily reached via the Skye Bridge (free of charge) from Kyle of Lochalsh. The bridge is around 23 miles from Lochcarron, again about 30 minutes by car.
